O for the Wings of a Dove

Oh for the wings, for the wings of a dove
Far away, far away would I rove
Oh for the wings, for the wings of a dove
Far away, Far away, Far away, Far away would I rove

In the wilderness build me a nest
And remain there forever at rest
In the wilderness build me, build me a nest
And remain there forever at rest

In the wilderness build me a nest
And remain there forever at rest
Forever at rest
Forever at rest

And remain there forever at rest
And remain there forever at rest

My take on the subject NEW

My take on the subject

Faith’s progress……………

King David the sweet psalmist said, "Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then I would I fly away and be at rest.
Lo then I would wander far off and remain in the wilderness. Selah.
I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest" (Psalm 55:6-9)

Is this an answer to our fears? Let’s stop, reflect awhile,
A quick relief from all our grief, a sudden change from circumstances sore,
When we suspect we cannot take much more.
But where to go? The doves' wings are so delicate and slow,
And soon we’d need to land again upon same earth below.

God offers us alternatives. Progressive trust in Him allows us options sweet,
We learn of Him (like Mary at the Master’s feet.)
"On Eagles wings I’ll carry you" such wings are strong
To carry us on faiths unfolding path, however long.

The Psalmist would progress to trust God more, (Psalm56:1-2)
To find that he is blest for "in the shadow of Thy wings"
My hiding place and refuge are now best,
His famous forebear could declare,
To faithful Ruth forsaking Moab’s fields,
and deaths’ dark memories there.
Yes, Boaz, blest redeemer would remind
That full reward was hers under God’s trusted wings, (Ruth 2:12)
Her past calamities have now all passed,
Her safety found in God Himself at last.

Lead me to the Rock much higher than myself (Psalm 61:3-4
A shelter and strong tower in every trying hour,
In covert of thy wings, in love which none can sever,
Within thy tabernacle to abide forever.

But there’s much more, for "in the shadow of Thy wingsI will rejoice" not only
Safe from fear but in His presence near,
But further promise on this theme, Psalm 68, and verse 13.
For those who’ve lain among the pots of ordinary things
Our Heavenly Boaz in redemption, gives us silver wings,
In likeness to the dove, and more behold
Alike her, covered with soft feathers,
purest finest gold.
